JOHN CORBALLIS
Jon was the main instigator and founder member of Steyning Arts and worked tirelessly for it since its inception in 2011. With its growing membership, he supported the broadening of its horizons where local artists began to exhibit in locations beyond Steyning, such as Arundel, Horsham and Chichester. During the annual art trail, Jon could always find space at Rose Cottage for artists to show their work.
He was also involved in the Steyning Festival where his legal knowledge, as a qualified solicitor, was utilised. During the Festival he could be seen on Fletcher’s Croft working with young people encouraging them to draw and paint from life.
For many years Jon organised the annual art exhibition at St Nicholas’ Church, Bramber in aid of the fabric of our ancient churches in the Adur Valley.
He was a kind and generous man who encouraged Steyning Arts members in their endeavours and gave of his time and energies freely. He will be remembered for his dry humour, his knowledge of the Arts, and his interest in politics, philosophy and history.
